Now I do appreciate you reading my piece but I don't write the headline :-). I respect your passion and understand your frustration but I am sensing some bitterness there with MLS? I also took the liberty to research some of your other commentary...Though this doesn't really have anything to do with the NY game, I do not think the team is moving anywhere. The market is too valuable to the league but after seeing the deal the Nats got from the city, they must feel they can broker one that is just as good. As much probing as I have done of Kevin Payne he has been relentlessly silent about any stadium discussion. I understand you are not a fan of the single-entity system but that may be a discussion for another time..,.Thanks! Chris Snear

What better way to bleed off support so Donnie Football can achieve his goal of moving the club unless a new little out-of-the-way stadium can be built to house them?

In fact, wake up and smell the plot: The single entity is brewing up a plan for DCU. They just gotta grind the beans first....

That was 2008. the 2009 season was filled with the 3-5-2. Soehn used the 4-4-2 seldomly.
Olsen was on the starting lineup for about almost the whole 2009 season. 2010 DCU is a different team than 2008,
only on some occasions did he use it.

Perkins may have improved, but he's still behind Keller and Friedel as well in terms of "Best American Keepers", not to mention Busch, Cannon and Reis in terms of MLS 'keepers. And I don't see Perkins being able to continue his ascendency on the international stage playing under the tutelage of Mark Simpson, on DC United, or in MLS.

So when we ran a backline of Burch-Janicki-MacTavish-Namoff to end 2008 and Burch-Jakovic-James-Namoff (later Vaughn) in 2009, those were just what? Passing fancies that lasted a long string of games? And how anyone can throw Olsen's name in there when he was missing major minutes is beyond me.

A) Just because Hanhnemann is in Europe doesn't make him automatic #3 goalkeeper. He's good but he's old. Keller hasn't been called up to the national team since 2007, so it seems unlikely he's going to go back.
B) You never know. In fact, Onalfo said that Graye can start for DC in the near future. And yet he's still a 4th round draft...
C)They clearly were running a 3-5-2 line-up.

A) Being called into Nat camps doesn't put him above The Big Three. I'd say he's #4 right now, so it would take an injury or a huge drop in form for him to surpass them. Even then, you're more likely to see Keller called in than Perkins.
B) Yes, and they filled old holes from the previous season. Now, DC has new holes (a-mid, forward, centerback) that it didn't necessarily have last year. However, unless you got Mwanga, Tchani, or Opara, there was no immediate starter, only projects.
C) You can't be that dense. Hell, Nowak was running a 4-4-2 before he left. The 3-5-2 is a distant, distant memory. If you think they were running a 3-5-2, post the line-up.

A) perkins is often called up to be the third goalkeeper for the us team
B) pontuis and wallace were very good at filling some of Dc's holes last year
C) Soehn ran a 3-5-2 last year. if you watched a dcu game you would know.

Why would you assume Perkins goes to the World Cup? At best, he's #4 on the list (behind Howard, Guzan, and Hahnemann). Also, the holes that DC has weren't going to be filled via the draft. Unless, you had a top 3 pick and plenty of patience, there wasn't the same quality of players as there were last year.

Also, Soehn ran a 4-4-2 in 2008 and 2009. Onalfo won't be changing anything if he goes with that formation.

Furthermore, the transfer window just opened up, so it's a bit premature to be trying to figure out what the starting XI will look like when DC is just now at a point when it can sign players from abroad.

Everything everybody is saying and what I have read is positive but we'll see. He physically looks more athletic and mature than he did when he left but to be honest, I didn't jump on all of the hype when he first signed anyway. United is clearly looking for versatility and quality in every player they are considering. The Boyzzz's and N'Silu's of the world are not on their radar but may be all that is available

Excellent post.
Nowak and Soehn both love the free-flowing movement of midfielders and forwards switching in each others roles. Confuses the heck out of defenses and leaves folks open from time to time. We saw it work well in 2004, and I think I'm seeing it again when everyone is mostly healthy. Last year, it failed miserably.
It's an ideal way to run an offense, but relies on everyone being on the same page and recognizing what someone does may mean you have to drop to cover their role, or leave yours to go support them. It's pretty when it works right and ugly when it doesn't.
